Slackness isn’t being merely lazy. Rather, it’s the absence of a strong purpose to wake up.

– Deepak Paul

Have you ever wondered why it’s so hard to get out of bed? I go through this often and my stock reaction would be to just brush it under the carpet and tell myself, “Stop slacking around and wake up Mr. Slacker”. But is this really fixing the issue here?

Think of a little child going to sleep the night before Christmas. It’s super excited about waking up the next day just to know what gifts Santa had placed under the Christmas tree. The child needs no wake up call because it’s gotta strong purpose for waking up.

Slackness isn’t us being merely lazy. Rather, it’s the absence of a strong purpose which creates the slackness in the first place. When we are accustomed to waking up without a strong purpose, we’ll most likely find no purpose in waking at all.

So what does a strong purpose look like? Is it raising our kids or paying off the mortgage or starting a business? Though they are all equally good purposes to wake up, but in general a strong purpose is really what turns you and me into a joyful little child keen on viewing tomorrows as gifts wrapped and placed under the Christmas tree. The child wants to know what’s in there, and it’s curiosity has no bounds. When our purpose excites us to look at our tomorrows like that, that’s a sign of a strong purpose.

There will be challenging situations along the way like the death of a loved one, a bitter divorce, or a financial meltdown, that will bring us down to our knees, but taking that extra time to figure out our strong purpose will keep us marching and not slacking in the journey of life.

Our life truly begins when we know what our strong purpose for waking up really is and that to me, my friends, is the cure for slackness.
